Audio Spanish lessons are one of the simplest ways to learn Spanish or to freshen up on your command of the language.  With audio Spanish lessons you can learn or refresh your Spanish language talents while you do other stuff; something which is very appealing to those with a proscribed amount of spare time.

I have personally listened to audio Spanish language lessons on cassettes and now, naturally as MP3 files on my iPod while walking, driving, working around the house and gardens and while commuting to work on the Metro.  Since you can load audio Spanish lessons in MP3 format onto a cartable player, it’s simple to study your Spanish lessons anywhere you be.

Using audio Spanish lessons allows you to do more things at once, so you can learn Spanish while you do almost any ordinary activity.  You can learn Spanish while working out at the gym, cooking dinner, gardening or almost anything else you like.

Naturally, not all audio Spanish lessons programs on the market are similarly helpful.  I’ve attempted some that do not more than rattle off a listing of Spanish words with no sort of context.  When separated from their ordinary place in conversational language, this is next to pointless.  This is the approach taken by many of the less expensive programs that don’t truly help you to learn the language; in fact, many of these programs actually make it appear a lot tougher to learn Spanish than it truly is.  There are a number of better options than these rote memorization style programs.

Two of the best programs to come out recently are Learning Spanish Like Crazy and Rocket Spanish.  Both of these are available on CD or can be downloaded from the Net for immediate access.  Both use modern South American conversational Spanish as their basis, instead of being primarily based on the kind of formal Spanish that Cervantes would have used.

Besides the audio part of the program, Rocket Spanish also includes MegaVocab, MegaAudio, and MegaVerbs.  These interactive games help individuals to learn and more importantly, remember what they’ve learned.

Both Rocket Spanish and Learning Spanish Like Crazy involve you straight away in conversational Spanish.  There are no long vocabulary lists to learn but instead you get to use the language in context right away.  You learn the vocabulary and verb tenses as you go.

The Rosetta Stone language learning software series is also a popular way to learn Spanish, helping scholars interactively learn over time as they create a solid understanding of grammar, vocabulary and usage.  Unlike these audio programs it doesn’t aim to quickly give the student a mastery of conversational Spanish.  When used along with one of the audio programs, Rosetta Stone can offer a very satisfactory way to quickly procure fluency in the language by teaching conversational talents with grammar, use and vocabulary.

The popularity and efficacy of these systems have led lots of the competing older language learning programs to begin emulating their techniques and supply individuals with an interactive way to learn Spanish.  However, it’s an excellent idea to stay away from most of the cheaper language instruction programs, since they’re customarily either the outdated rote memorization method of learning or clunky Rosetta Stone imitations that are hard to work low quality programs and definitely not enjoyable methods to learn Spanish.

Another program that offers good audio Spanish lessons is the Pimsleur language series from Simon and Schuster.  However, the Pimsleur program lacks any real modules to enable you to be taught how to read Spanish.  While the other programs noted above emphasise spoken Spanish, they also contain elements to help develop Spanish reading skills.  Unfortunately, the small pamphlet supplied with the Pimsleur language program is severely lacking this regard.  Nevertheless, if used with extra material developed to teach Spanish reading abilities, it’s audio Spanish lessons can prove very efficacious in helping you to learn Spanish.
