One such famous painter which the world acknowledged as a master in this area of art is Diego Velasquez. He is also known for his friendship with King Phillip IV and the chief minister; he was greatly admired by the king as Velasquez showed his style and outstanding abilities in every piece he has made.
In June 5, 1599 in Seville, Diego Velasquez was born, coming from a family belonging to the middle class and being the oldest of six children. At the age of eleven he began learning about art under the apprenticeship of master painter Francisco Pacheco, and when he reached the age of eighteen years old, the painter’s guild certified Velasquez as a master painter that allowed him to work as a professional painter. He made his living by doing a number of paintings and got married to Pacheco’s daughter; at that time most of his themes were religious and tavern pieces, and because he truly is a gifted painter he was able to sell his paintings and accumulated enough money to buy a comfortable house for them and another house to be rent out.
Diego Velasquez’s career was initiated by impressive and unique pieces, pegging him as one of the country’s most admired painters. One of his numerous famous artwork was The Surrender of Breda which he created after he had the pleasure of meeting the Marques de Spinola; needless to say, Spinola was amazed at the amount of details and the way that Velasquez was able to capture the expressions of emotion of the subjects in the painting.
